# Sell a Mark: list it on the Market at your price

[Canonical HTML page](https://gradiently.design/guide/list-a-mark-on-the-market)

A Mark you own can go back on the Market with your price on it. Here is how listing works, who can be paid, how to choose a price without guessing, and what happens when someone claims it.

## The short version

- An owner can list a Mark on the Gradiently Market at a price they choose within the range the listing form shows.
- Anyone can claim a listed Mark at that price until the owner takes it off the Market.
- Owners are paid through Stripe, with payouts available in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, the US and Canada.
- Gradiently keeps a fee from each sale, and the listing form shows exactly what you earn before you list.
- When a listed Mark is claimed, the new owner receives a new certificate of authenticity and the seller is emailed straight away.

To **sell a Mark** you own, open it, choose **List it**, set a price within the range shown and confirm. From that moment any brand can claim it at your price until you take it off the Market. When someone does, Stripe pays what you earn into your bank account, Gradiently keeps a fee, and the new owner receives a certificate of authenticity in their name. Before your first listing, you set up payouts with Stripe once; it takes a few minutes.

Listing is the paid counterpart of a [free transfer](https://gradiently.design/guide/transfer-a-mark). A transfer goes to one named person; a listing is open to anyone who finds the Mark and wants it. There are no auctions: the price you set is the price.

## Who can be paid

Gradiently pays owners through Stripe. Stripe keeps your bank and identity details, and Gradiently never sees them. Payouts are available in these regions:

| Region | Payouts |
| --- | --- |
| European Economic Area | Available |
| United Kingdom | Available |
| Switzerland | Available |
| United States | Available |
| Canada | Available |

Stripe pays earnings into your bank account on your payout schedule. Set up payouts once and every Mark you list after that uses them.

## How to list a Mark, step by step

1. **Set up payouts with Stripe** The first time you choose **List it**, Gradiently asks you to tell Stripe where to pay you: your details and a bank account. Stripe checks them, and we email you when payouts are ready. You can also start from Settings › Balance.
2. **Open the Mark and choose List it** It sits among the Mark's tools, next to Transfer and Certificate.
3. **Choose your price** Type a price inside the range the form shows. Below it, you'll see Gradiently's fee and the line that matters most: **You earn**.
4. **List it** The Mark appears on the Market as listed by its owner, with your price. Your name stays on it as holder until someone claims it.
5. **Change or remove it whenever you like** **Change the price** updates the listing at once. **Take off the Market** ends it, and the Mark is simply yours again.

> **Keep designing while it's listed** A listed Mark is still yours. You can design and export with it as usual until the moment someone claims it. Export anything you'll need before you list.

If listing isn't open for your account yet, the dialog says so plainly and Gradiently emails you when it is.

## How to choose a price

There is no formula, and we won't pretend there is. But you can price from evidence rather than hope. The Market itself shows you what you need.

- **See what else is listed.** Filter the Market by **Listed by owners** and sort by **Lowest price** or **Highest price** to see the current range for Marks like yours.
- **Check the alternatives.** Search your Mark's colour words, such as *deep teal silk*. If many open Marks look similar and can be claimed from Gradiently, a high price is hard to justify. If yours is unusual, it isn't.
- **Look at its history.** A Mark with a clear story on its certificate, such as one used by a known brand, has a record anyone thinking of claiming it can check.
- **Think about who it suits.** A warm, soft paper Mark suits cafés and studios; a dark chrome one suits tech launches. Price for the brand you can picture claiming it.
- **Start where you'd be happy to sell.** You can lower the price later in one step; raising it after interest is awkward.

How to read a Mark's look and mood is covered in [finding a gradient by colour](https://gradiently.design/guide/search-marks-by-colour), which is also how brands will look for yours.

## Show the Mark at its best

Every Mark page already dresses the Mark as a poster, story, slide and card. You can do more: designs you showcase on your profile show brands what the Mark looks like in real work, and a Mark on real words is far easier to want than a Mark on its own.

A portrait lookbook cover for a spring collection, designed on the Mark being listed

A portrait post on the Mark, showing how it carries a headline.

A vertical story reading Open late on Fridays, on the same listed Mark

The same Mark as a story, so brands see it hold in a tall format too.

Showcasing designs is explained in [your profile and showcase](https://gradiently.design/guide/profiles-and-showcase).

## What happens when someone claims it

| For the new owner | For you |
| --- | --- |
| Pays securely through Stripe; card details never reach Gradiently | Stripe pays what you earn into your bank account |
| Becomes the Mark's only owner straight away | The Mark leaves your Marks; you can no longer export with it |
| Receives a new certificate of authenticity in their name | Your certificate is marked as replaced in the registry |
| The history records the Mark as claimed on the Market | We email you the moment it has a new owner |
| Can use it in every design and export, and list or give it on later | Files you already exported stay yours |

A Market claim is final for both sides. The creator of the Mark never changes.

If you change the price while someone is part way through claiming, they are shown the new price and asked to check it before claiming again. Nobody pays a price they didn't see.

## Listing compared with the other ways to let go

### List on the Market

- You set the price and are paid through Stripe
- Anyone can claim it until you unlist it
- You keep it, and can use it, until it sells
- Needs payouts set up in a supported region

### Transfer or release

- **Transfer**: free, to one named person, who must accept
- **Release**: free, back to the Market for anyone to claim from Gradiently
- Neither pays you anything
- Both work wherever you are

A listed Mark can't be transferred at the same time: take it off the Market first. And while a listing waits, keeping still applies as usual, free with Pro or yearly without, as [keeping a Mark](https://gradiently.design/guide/keeping-a-mark) explains. Ownership on Gradiently is a registry record, not an NFT, so a sale is simply a change of holder in that record.
