Kort fortalt
- The TikTok cover size is 1080×1920 pixels, a 9:16 vertical frame, the same as the video itself.
- In the feed, TikTok's buttons run down the right side and the caption and username sit along the bottom, so cover text belongs in the centre.
- The profile grid shows covers in three columns as shorter tiles cropped from the middle, so text near the top or bottom of a cover is cut off there.
- A consistent cover template for each series, with the same background, type and position, makes a profile grid look planned.
- Because a cover is often chosen from a frame of the video, many creators add a designed title card as the first frame.
På denne side
The TikTok cover size is 1080×1920 pixels, a 9:16 vertical frame, the same shape as the video. Put the cover's title in the centre of the frame: in the feed, TikTok's buttons run down the right side and the caption sits along the bottom, and in your profile grid each cover is shown as a shorter tile cropped from the middle. A title in the central band survives both.

Where to put text on a TikTok cover
Two things cover or crop your cover. In the feed, the app's interface sits on top of it. In your profile, the grid trims its top and bottom. Both point to the same answer: keep text in the middle of the frame and a little left of centre.
| Area | What covers it | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Feed tabs, and cropped off in the profile grid | Background only |
| Right side | Like, comment, share and profile buttons | Background only |
| Bottom | Username, caption and sound, and cropped off in the grid | Background only |
| Centre | Nothing | Title, number, key image |
- 1
Design the full frame
Fill 1080×1920 with the background so nothing looks cut short in the feed.
- 2
Set the title in the centre
Large, heavy type in the middle band, slightly left of centre to stay clear of the buttons.
- 3
Keep it to a few words
In the grid, each cover is a third of the screen wide. Three to five words is plenty.
- 4
Use it as the first frame
TikTok lets you pick a frame of the video as the cover and add text in the app. A designed title card as the opening frame gives you full control over the result.
- 5
Check the grid
After posting, look at your profile. If the title is cut off in the tile, move it closer to the centre next time.
Series covers and a grid that looks planned
A profile grid with a clear system tells visitors what you make before they tap anything. The simplest system: one cover template per series, with the same background, type and title position, changing only the words or episode number.
A series cover: the episode number big, the series name above, the topic below.
The next episode, same template. In the grid, the series reads as a set.
If you run several series, give each its own colour on a shared structure. The grid then sorts itself visually, and people can see at a glance which series a video belongs to. Keep one typeface across all of them, heavy enough to read at a third of a phone's width; fonts for social media has options. A grid like this is one of the most visible parts of creator branding, because it is the first thing a curious viewer sees after tapping your name.
Looks random
- A different font on every cover
- Titles in different places
- Covers picked from whatever frame came up
- Colours that change with every video
Looks planned
- One cover template per series
- Titles always in the same central spot
- A designed title card as the cover frame
- One colour or material per series
The same thinking applies to Instagram; Instagram grid aesthetic covers it in detail. For the video backgrounds themselves, see Reels and TikTok backgrounds, and for every other format, social media image sizes. Gradiently has the TikTok cover built in, can export a design as a 5 to 30 second seamless loop for the video itself, and copy to sizes turns one cover into a matching Reel or Shorts cover.
Spørgsmål, folk stiller
What size is a TikTok cover?
1080×1920 pixels, a 9:16 vertical frame, the same as the video.
Where should text go on a TikTok cover?
In the centre of the frame, slightly left of centre, away from the right-hand buttons and at least 300 pixels from the top and bottom.
Why is my TikTok cover cut off on my profile?
The profile grid shows covers as shorter tiles cropped from the middle, so text near the top or bottom of the cover is hidden there.
How do I make my TikTok grid look organised?
Use one cover template per series with the same background, type and title position, and give each series its own colour on a shared structure.
Can I use the same cover for TikTok, Reels and Shorts?
Yes. All three use a 1080×1920 frame, so one cover works across them as long as the title sits in the central band.
