Gradiently ChatGPT connector: make designs inside ChatGPT

Ask ChatGPT for this week's posts and get back editable designs in your fonts, your colours and your Mark, saved in your workspace. Here is how to connect it and what to ask.

The short version

  • Gradiently connects to ChatGPT as a custom connector at https://gradiently.design/api/mcp/chatgpt, using OAuth sign in.
  • Once connected, ChatGPT can search Marks, read your brand and create designs that are saved in your workspace and open in the Studio.
  • When ChatGPT lays a design out itself it spends no Gradiently AI credits; asking for Gradiently's own Designer uses credits.
  • Only workspace owners and admins can connect an assistant, and a ChatGPT connection can never claim Marks, pay for anything or give a Mark away.
  • A connection renews automatically for up to 30 days and can be revoked at any time in Settings › API and agents.

To set up the Gradiently ChatGPT connector, add Gradiently as a custom connector in ChatGPT with the address https://gradiently.design/api/mcp/chatgpt, sign in to Gradiently when asked and choose a workspace. Then ask in plain words: "Make three Instagram posts for Saturday's market stall." ChatGPT reads your brand, lays the posts out in your Mark, saves them in your workspace and hands back links that open each one in the Studio, where every word stays editable.

This is a design tool working behind the chat, not image generation. The difference is explained in ChatGPT design; this page is the practical setup and the requests that work best.

How to connect Gradiently to ChatGPT

  1. 1

    Check you can connect

You need to be an owner or admin of the Gradiently workspace, and a ChatGPT plan and settings that allow custom connectors. Which plans allow that is OpenAI's decision and changes over time, so check ChatGPT's own help pages.

  2. 2

    Add a custom connector

In ChatGPT's connector settings, add a new one, name it Gradiently and paste the address below. Choose OAuth as the sign in method.

  3. 3

    Sign in to Gradiently

A Gradiently window opens: ChatGPT is asking to connect to Gradiently. Pick the Workspace the assistant should work in.

  4. 4

    Review the permissions

Under Allow this assistant to, read what it may do, then choose Allow connection. You return to ChatGPT.

  5. 5

    Test it

Ask "What can you do in Gradiently?" ChatGPT should list its Gradiently tools. If it doesn't, start a new chat with the connector turned on.

text
Name: Gradiently
Server address: https://gradiently.design/api/mcp/chatgpt
Authentication: OAuth (sign in to Gradiently)
The connector settings for ChatGPT. Claude uses a different address, covered in Gradiently in Claude.

A custom connector works for you as soon as you add it. A listing in ChatGPT's public directory is a separate thing that needs review and approval by OpenAI. If connectors are new to you, ChatGPT apps and what is MCP explain the idea in plain words.

What happens when you ask for a design

Say you run a flower stall and type: "Make a portrait Instagram post and a story for Saturday's market. We're at stall 14 from 8am, peonies are in." Behind the scenes, ChatGPT reads your brand's profile and Mark, writes the words in your voice, lays out a 1080×1350 post and a 1080×1920 story, looks at the rendered result and fixes what it doesn't like. Then it replies with two Studio links.

Saturday market
Peonies are in.
Stall 14, from 8am
Gradiently · @gradiently

The portrait post at 1080×1350, laid out in the brand's Mark and fonts.

Saturday market
Peonies are in.
Stall 14, from 8am
Gradiently · @gradiently

The story at 1080×1920 from the same request, words kept inside the safe zone.

Open a link and you are in the Studio with a normal design: text you can retype, photos you can swap, layers you can move. Nothing is a flattened picture. Export from there as usual, remembering that exporting needs the design's Mark to be yours.

Plain requests and the work they trigger. Every design it saves comes back as a Studio link.

Credits work simply. When ChatGPT draws and edits the design itself, it uses your ChatGPT plan and spends no Gradiently AI credits. If you specifically ask for Gradiently's own Designer, that work is measured in credits, exactly as in the Studio; AI credits explained has the detail.

Prompts that get better designs

ChatGPT is only as specific as you are. Brief it the way you'd brief a person, and set up your brand kit first so it has your voice and facts to work from; brand voice for AI shows what to write.

Vague

  • "Make a post about our sale"
  • "Something eye catching"
  • "Do all the sizes"
  • "Use a nice background"

Specific

  • "A portrait Instagram post: our linen sale, this weekend only"
  • "One short headline, the date, nothing else"
  • "Make a story and a Facebook post from it"
  • "Use our brand's Mark" or "Use GR·K7Q2·MX"
  • Give real details. Dates, times, prices, addresses. Invented details are the most common thing you'll need to fix.
  • Ask for a series. "Five posts for launch week on the same Mark" keeps a set consistent.
  • Name the format. An A4 poster, a YouTube thumbnail. Gradiently uses exact platform sizes.
  • Check before posting. Open each Studio link and read every word.

For a longer list of tested requests, see MCP design prompts.

Limits and safety

A connection acts as you, inside the one workspace you chose, and only within the permissions you allowed. Some things always need you signed in to Gradiently yourself.

  • No claiming. A ChatGPT connection can't claim Marks. Claim in Gradiently.
  • No payments. It can't reach billing, plans, credit top-ups or payouts.
  • No giving away. It can't transfer, list, renew or release a Mark.
  • Private stays private. Your designs are visible to others only if you ask for a view link.

Renewal and revoking

A connection's access lasts an hour and renews automatically for up to 30 days, after which you reconnect. To end it immediately, revoke it in Settings › API and agents.

Prefer to wire it up with an API key, or use another assistant? Connect an AI assistant covers every option, and the technical reference lives in the developer docs.

Connect your AI assistant

Let Claude or any MCP client search Marks and make designs that open in the Studio.

Questions people ask

Does Gradiently work in ChatGPT?

Yes. Add Gradiently as a custom connector at https://gradiently.design/api/mcp/chatgpt, sign in, and ChatGPT can make and edit designs in your workspace.

Does using Gradiently in ChatGPT cost credits?

Not when ChatGPT lays the design out itself. Asking for Gradiently's own Designer uses Gradiently AI credits, as in the Studio.

Can ChatGPT export my designs?

It can render saved designs, under the same export rules as the Studio: the design's Mark must be yours. You can also open the design and export it yourself.

Who can connect ChatGPT to a workspace?

Only owners and admins of the workspace. Editors and viewers can't connect assistants.

How do I disconnect ChatGPT from Gradiently?

Revoke the connection in Settings › API and agents. It stops working straight away and won't renew.
