Easter social media posts: spring palettes and offers

Easter is the first big weekend of spring, and it arrives on a different date every year. Here is how to plan your posts around it, keep pastels from looking babyish and fit hours, events and offers into a few clear frames.

The short version

  • Easter social media posts usually need to cover three things: opening hours over the long weekend, any event such as an egg hunt, and a spring offer.
  • In Western churches Easter Sunday falls between 22 March and 25 April, so check the date each year before scheduling.
  • Pastels look grown up when they sit on a deeper or warmer base and are paired with one stronger accent.
  • An egg hunt or event post must show the date, time, place, age range and whether booking is needed.
  • Make the feed post at 1080×1350 and the story at 1080×1920 from one design so the weekend looks consistent.

Strong Easter social media posts tell people three things: when you're open over the long weekend, what's on (an egg hunt, a special menu, a workshop) and what's on offer. Wrap them in a spring palette of soft yellow, blossom pink and leaf green, give each post one clear message and post them in the week before. That covers almost every business, from bakeries to garden centres to gyms.

When to post for Easter

Easter moves. In Western churches Easter Sunday can fall anywhere from 22 March to 25 April, and Orthodox Easter is often a week or more later. In England, Wales and Australia both Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays, and many other countries close on at least one of them, so hours change for a lot of businesses. Put the dates in your social media content calendar as soon as the year starts.

A five post Easter plan. Smaller businesses can merge the hours and offer into one post.

The Easter Sunday greeting is the easiest post to overthink. One line is enough: "Happy Easter from all of us. Back on Tuesday." If you'd rather not mark the religious side, "Enjoy the long weekend" works for everyone. Either way, keep it warm, short and free of offers, so it reads as a greeting rather than an advert.

Easter colour palettes that don't look babyish

Pastels are the obvious Easter choice, and they can look sweet or washed out. The trick is contrast: a pastel post needs either a deeper base colour or one stronger accent, so the eye has something to hold. Pale yellow on pale pink on pale blue reads as a nursery; pale yellow beside a deep leaf green reads as spring.

Four pastels and two anchors. Use Fern for type on pastel grounds and Marigold as the single bright accent.
Meadow and Blossom to marigold end in a deeper tone, which gives white or dark type a firm place to sit.

For more combinations, pastel colour palettes has a full set, and spring colour palettes goes beyond Easter for the whole season.

Easter opening hours posts

A long weekend means four days of changed hours, which is a lot to read on a phone. Set them in a simple column, one line per day, and bold the closed days. Then say when normal hours resume.

How to make an Easter egg hunt flyer and event post

Egg hunts, craft mornings and Easter brunches are the posts families save and share. They fail when a detail is missing and parents have to message to ask.

  1. 1

Headline the event, not the holiday

"Egg hunt in the garden" beats "Happy Easter" because it tells people what to come for.

  2. 2

    Give the five facts

Date, start and finish time, place, age range and price or free. Put them on separate lines.

  3. 3

    Say how to book

"Book via link in bio, 40 places" or "Just turn up". Either is fine; not saying is not.

  4. 4

    Make a printable version

An A5 flyer at 1748×2480 for the counter and an A4 poster at 2480×3508 for the window, from the same design.

Easter offer ideas by business

  • Bakeries and chocolatiers: hot cross buns or Easter boxes with a clear pre order deadline. See bakery Instagram ideas for photo styles.
  • Florists and garden centres: spring bundles and table flowers, posted early in Easter week.
  • Cafés and restaurants: an Easter Sunday brunch with sittings and a booking link.
  • Shops: a long weekend code that ends on Easter Monday at midnight.
  • Gyms and studios: a bank holiday class timetable, since normal classes often move.
  • Schools and clubs: holiday camp places, with dates and ages.

Keep the same palette across the hours post, the event and the offer, and the weekend looks like one planned campaign rather than three rushed posts. With Gradiently you can make the first design, then, with Pro, resize it to the story, the flyer and the poster in one step, each laid out for its own shape, and the words stay readable on the pastel background because Auto ink picks light or dark type for each line.
