The short version
- Gradiently can record your camera with an optional microphone, a screen, tab or window, or your voice alone, directly in the browser.
- Every clip is reviewed before it is added to a design, and it stays in your browser until you choose Use recording.
- Whether a screen recording includes the screen's own sound depends on your browser and on whether you share a tab, a window or a whole screen.
- A recording can run for up to 60 minutes, within 100 MB for video or 25 MB for a voice clip.
- Recording and the video timeline are part of Pro video editing, and finished videos export as MP4 or WebM up to 1080p.
On this page
You can record screen in browser tabs, your camera or just your voice without installing anything: in Gradiently, open the Timeline on a design, choose Record and pick a source. Your browser asks for permission, you record, and the clip waits for you to watch or listen back. Only when you choose Use recording does it leave your browser and land on the timeline, on top of your Mark and the words already on the page. Recording is part of Pro video editing.

Each recording can run for up to 60 minutes and stay within 100 MB for video or 25 MB for a voice clip. Long takes are rarely what you want on social, though. For a feed, a clip of under a minute usually does the job, and talking head videos explains how to keep a face to camera clip tight.
How to record your screen in the browser
- 1
Open the Timeline and choose Record
In the Studio, open Timeline from the design, then Record. Choose Screen.
- 2
Decide on sound
Turn on Microphone to talk over the recording. Turn on Screen audio if you also want the sound of what you're showing, such as a video playing in a tab.
- 3
Start, then pick what to share
Choose Start recording. Your browser opens its own sharing dialog: pick a tab, a window or the entire screen. A live preview shows what is being captured.
- 4
Pause if you need to
Pause and Resume let you skip the boring part, such as a page loading, without editing it out later. Choose Stop when you're done.
- 5
Review before adding
Watch the clip back. Choose Use recording to add it to the timeline, Discard to try again, or Download clip to keep a copy on your computer.
Screen recording with audio: what your browser decides
Your microphone works the same way everywhere. Screen sound does not. Whether a screen recording can capture the audio of what is on screen is decided by the browser and by the surface you choose to share, not by Gradiently. Browsers built on Chromium, such as Chrome and Edge, can usually share a tab's audio; sharing a whole screen or a window often comes without sound, and some browsers don't offer screen audio at all. MDN's guide to the Screen Capture API has the technical detail.
Likely to include screen audio
- Sharing a single browser tab
- A Chromium browser such as Chrome or Edge
- Screen audio turned on before you start
- The share audio box ticked in the browser's dialog
Often silent
- Sharing a whole screen or an app window
- Browsers that don't offer audio sharing
- Screen audio turned off in Gradiently
- The share audio box left unticked
If the browser doesn't hand over screen audio, Gradiently tells you, and the clip keeps your microphone if it was on. When you're unsure, record a five second test first and listen back on the review screen, which says plainly whether audio was included.
Recording camera and voice
Choose Camera and turn on Microphone for a face to camera clip with sound, or leave the microphone off and add music on the timeline later. Choose Voice to record a voiceover on its own: it lands as an audio track, ready to sit under a carousel's pages or a slide deck. Echo cancellation and noise suppression are switched on, so a quiet room and a decent headset microphone are enough.
A camera clip framed on a story: the Mark fills the frame around the recording and the words stay on brand.
A screen recording sits inside a portrait post, with a title above it so the point lands even with the sound off.

After you record: the timeline
Once added, the clip is a track on the timeline. Trim its start and end, split it at the playhead, change its speed and volume, fade it in and out, then add captions and music. The whole process is in adding captions to a video. Every recording also goes into Your media, so the same clip can be reused in the next design without uploading it again.
Export the finished design as an MP4 or WebM video, up to 1080p, depending on what your browser can record. Size it for where it will play first: a 1080×1920 story or Reel, a 1080×1350 portrait post, or a 1920×1080 frame for YouTube and slides. Social media video sizes lists the rest, and screen recording tips covers the craft of a clear demo: a clean desktop, a large cursor and one idea per clip.
Questions people ask
Can I record my screen in the browser without installing anything?
Yes. Modern desktop browsers can capture a tab, window or screen once you give permission, and Gradiently records straight from that into your design.
Why does my screen recording have no sound?
Screen audio depends on your browser and on what you share. Sharing a single tab in a Chromium browser such as Chrome or Edge is the most likely to include it; whole screens and windows are often silent.
How long can a recording be in Gradiently?
Up to 60 minutes, within 100 MB for a camera or screen clip and 25 MB for a voice recording.
Is my recording uploaded while I record?
No. The clip stays in your browser while you review it, and is only added to the design when you choose Use recording.
Do I need Pro to record video in Gradiently?
Yes. Camera, screen and voice recording are part of Pro video editing, along with the timeline, captions and music.
