The short version
- A fashion brand Instagram is recognised by a consistent feel, the same type, framing and background treatment, rather than by any single photo.
- Drops work best as a short countdown: a teaser, a date, a detail, then the release post and a story at the moment of release.
- Lookbook carousels read like a short story when they open with a cover slide, move through the looks in order and close with where to shop.
- Each collection can have its own colour story while the fonts, layout and framing stay fixed from season to season.
- Instagram feed posts work best at 1080×1350 pixels, and stories and Reels at 1080×1920.

A strong fashion brand Instagram has a signature feel that survives every season: the same typeface, the same way of framing a garment, the same treatment behind the words. The clothes change with each collection; the feel does not. Build that frame once, then run drops as short countdowns, lookbooks as carousels with a beginning and an end, and campaigns as a colour story that sits inside the frame instead of replacing it.
Build a signature feel before you post the next drop
Followers scroll fast. What makes them stop on your post, before they read your handle, is recognition: a colour, a crop, a font they have seen from you before. Decide those things once and write them down.
- One heading font, used for every drop name and campaign title. A condensed sans, an editorial serif or a wide grotesque; pick one and stay with it.
- One framing rule for product shots: full length on a plain wall, cropped at the shoulders, flat lay from above. Mixing all three looks unedited.
- One treatment behind text: the same family of backgrounds for every announcement, so a drop post is recognisable in a single frame.
- One place for your logo, small, always in the same corner, or not at all.
The hardest part is the third point. Most brands borrow a template for their announcements and end up looking like everyone else who used it. A signature look that belongs only to you is worth more than any single campaign. Gradiently is built around that idea: a Mark is a living gradient background with one owner at a time, and once you claim it, nobody else can export with it.

A drop is an event, so treat it like one. Five or six posts across a week build more anticipation than one announcement the morning of release.
- 1
Seven days out: the tease
A detail shot: a button, a stitch, a fabric in close up. No name, no date. Just "Soon."
- 2
Five days out: the name and date
"Drop 04: Salt. Friday 6pm." On your announcement background, in your heading font.
- 3
Three days out: one piece
The hero garment on its own, with the fabric and fit in one line.
- 4
The day before: the countdown sticker
A story with Instagram's countdown sticker so followers can ask to be reminded. Keep the sticker and the date inside the safe zone, clear of the app's buttons.
- 5
Release: feed post and story together
"Drop 04 is live." Link sticker on the story, link in bio for the feed.
- 6
Afterwards: sold out and restock
Say what sold out and whether it is coming back. It rewards the people who bought and informs the people who missed it.
The countdown story, with space below for the reminder sticker.
The release post in the feed, in the same background and type.
More countdown layouts are in countdown post design, and the tease stage is covered in coming soon posts.
Lookbook carousels with a beginning and an end
A lookbook carousel is a short magazine feature. It should open with a cover, move through the looks in an order that makes sense, and end by telling people where to go. Up to 20 slides are allowed; eight to ten usually hold attention better.

Use 1080×1350 for every slide: the tallest of the standard feed shapes, and the one that shows a full length look best. Print and PDF lookbooks for buyers and stockists have their own conventions, covered in lookbook design.
Give each collection a colour story
The frame stays; the colour moves. Choosing a colour story for each collection lets a new season feel new without breaking the grid. Pull it from the fabrics themselves, and use it for announcement backgrounds, cover slides and story frames.
Your profile grid shows each post as a 3:4 tile cut from the centre, so keep the key words a little in from the edges; Instagram grid crop has the exact margins. If you want the grid itself to look composed, alternate product posts with colour story posts rather than planning elaborate puzzles that break the moment you post out of order. Instagram grid aesthetic has more patterns.
Instagram sizes for fashion brands
Feed post 4:5
1080 × 1350
Story and Reel 9:16
1080 × 1920
Square 1:1
1080 × 1080
Pinterest pin 2:3
1000 × 1500
Each drop needs at least the feed post and a story, often a Pinterest pin and a shop banner too. Rebuilding the same design four times is where small teams lose their evenings. With a Gradiently Pro plan, one design resizes to every format in a step and keeps its Mark behind the words, so the countdown, the release post and the pin all match.
