Gradiently for agencies: many clients, one studio

Agencies juggle many looks at once and hand most of them over eventually. Gradiently keeps each client’s look separate, provably theirs, and easy to pass on when the work ends.

The short version

  • In Gradiently, an agency can give each client its own brand, with its own Marks, brand kit, voice and designs.
  • Every Mark has exactly one owner at a time, so a client’s look cannot be claimed by anyone else while it is held.
  • A Mark can be given to another Gradiently account for free, and its numbered certificate moves into the new owner’s name.
  • Team workspaces and roles are part of Pro, with owner, admin, editor and viewer roles.
  • Anyone can check a Mark’s code or certificate to see who holds it and its full history.

As a design tool for agencies, Gradiently solves three problems that usually live in spreadsheets and shared drives: keeping each client’s look separate, proving whose look it is, and handing it over cleanly. Each client gets its own brand with its own Mark, brand kit and voice. Every Mark has exactly one owner at a time, with a numbered certificate. And when the project ends, you can give the Mark to the client’s account for free, certificate and all.

One brand per client

A brand in Gradiently is a home for one voice. It keeps its own Marks, brand kit, brand profile and designs, and the switcher at the top of the app moves you between them. Choosing a client changes everything below it: Home, Designs and Marks show only that client’s work, and a new design starts on their primary Mark with their fonts. Running several brands from one account covers the mechanics.

Brief the brand kit properly at the start of each engagement: logos, palettes, heading and body fonts, voice, audience and what the brand does. The kit can read the client’s website to fill in its name, description, colour and icon, which saves the first half hour. The Designer then writes in that client’s voice, not yours. Setting up a brand kit lists every field.

A look each client can prove is theirs

Clients ask agencies for something nobody else has, and gradients are the hardest thing to deliver on that promise: any CSS value can be copied. A Mark is different. Each is checked against every other before it is published and anything too close is refused, and each has exactly one owner at a time. While a client holds their Mark, no other brand can claim it.

A gradient from a generator

  • Anyone can copy the same code
  • No record of who uses it
  • Looks the same as a thousand other brands
  • Nothing to hand over but a hex list

A claimed Mark

  • One owner at a time, by design
  • A public record and a numbered certificate
  • Checked against every other Mark before publishing
  • Handed over to the client’s account, history intact

Anyone can design with a Mark nobody has claimed, so you can pitch two or three looks on the client’s real words before anyone pays. Claiming is a one-time payment and includes the first year of keeping; after that, keeping is free with Pro or a yearly fee per Mark without it. Ownership is a registry record, not an NFT and not a trademark. Mark codes and certificates explains what the record shows.

Team roles for agency work

Team workspaces are part of Pro. Give your studio manager and account leads admin, your designers editor, and client contacts viewer, so they see work in progress without being able to change it. A role covers the whole workspace, so if a client must never see another client’s work, run their brand in its own workspace. Workspace roles has setups for different team sizes.

For one-off approvals, skip the invitation. Share on a design turns on a view-only link the client can open and download from, and you can switch it off once the work is signed off.

Producing client volume without the late nights

  • Every size at once. Approve one design, then copy it to every size the campaign needs.
  • Bulk create. A CSV of event dates, speaker names or prices becomes one page per row; the spreadsheet stays in the browser.
  • Print that arrives right. Pro exports print PDF with bleed and crop marks for menus, flyers and posters.
  • Video. Timeline, captions, music and screen or camera recording, for clients who want Reels without a shoot.
  • Your own AI. Connect ChatGPT or Claude to a workspace with an API key and brief designs from where you already work.

Handing a Mark over to the client

Decide early who should hold each Mark. If the client wants to own it from day one, they claim it and bring you into their workspace. If you claim it during the project, give it to them at handover. Giving is free and works between any two Gradiently accounts.

  1. 1

Check the client has an account

The Mark moves to a Gradiently account, so they need one before you start.

  2. 2

    Give the Mark

From the Mark’s menu. Gradiently emails a code to confirm it is really you.

  3. 3

    The client accepts

They have a few days to accept. The numbered certificate then moves into their name.

  4. 4

    Keep working, if retained

A team member can export with a Mark its owner has added to a workspace they belong to, so a retained agency carries on there.

Designs you exported along the way stay usable, and the Mark’s public history shows the whole chain, which is a tidy record for the client’s files. Transferring a Mark covers the details, and the agency workflow guide covers the wider process from brief to sign-off.

Questions people ask

Can I manage several clients in one Gradiently account?

Yes. Give each client its own brand, with its own Marks, brand kit, voice and designs, and switch between them at the top of the app.

Can I give a client’s Mark to them when the project ends?

Yes. Giving a Mark to another Gradiently account is free. They confirm within a few days and the certificate moves into their name.

Can clients see work without editing it?

Yes. Invite them to the workspace as viewers, or send a view-only link to a single design that you can turn off at any time.

Is a claimed Mark a trademark?

No. Ownership is a record in Gradiently’s registry with a numbered certificate. It is not a trademark and not an NFT.

Does Gradiently work for agencies on the Free plan?

You can design with any unclaimed Mark on Free, but team workspaces, roles, unlimited designs and exports without a watermark are part of Pro.

Most agency mistakes are not design mistakes. They are the wrong logo on the right post, feedback lost in an email thread, a file nobody can find. A good workflow makes those hard to do.
