Gradiently Free vs Pro vs owning a Mark: what each gives you

Gradiently has two plans and one kind of ownership, and they answer different questions. The plan decides how you work; the Mark decides what is yours.

The short version

  • Gradiently Free lets you design with any unclaimed Mark, keep up to 3 designs and use a one-time allowance of AI credits.
  • Free exports are PNG or JPG at 720p with a small watermark, and Pro exports go up to 4K with no watermark in every format.
  • Owning a Mark is separate from your plan: claiming makes you its only owner and is what allows you to export designs made with it.
  • Pro adds unlimited designs, the full template library, resizing to every size in one step, bulk create, video editing, version history, brand kit, comments, team workspaces and AI credits every month.
  • With Pro, every Mark you own is kept free; without it, keeping a Mark is a yearly fee per Mark after the first year.

Gradiently Free vs Pro comes down to how you work: Free lets you design with any unclaimed Mark, keep up to 3 designs and export PNG or JPG at 720p with a small watermark. Pro, a monthly or yearly plan, removes the watermark, exports up to 4K in every format and adds the production tools: unlimited designs, every template, resize to all sizes, bulk create, video, version history, brand kit and teams. Owning a Mark is a third thing, separate from either plan. Claiming one makes it yours, and you need to own a design's Mark to export it at all.

This page lays out each layer without prices, which change and live on the site, so you can work out which combination you actually need.

Two questions, not one

Most tools sell a single subscription. Gradiently splits the decision in two, because a background you own and a set of tools you rent are genuinely different things.

Your plan: Free or Pro

  • Decides export quality and formats
  • Decides how many designs you keep
  • Decides which tools you can use
  • Monthly or yearly, can change any time

Your Marks: claimed or not

  • Decides whose background it is
  • Decides whether you can export with it
  • Comes with a public record and a certificate
  • A one-time claim, then kept yearly or free with Pro

What Gradiently Free includes

Free is not a timed trial; it lasts as long as you like. You can open any Mark nobody has claimed and design with it in the Studio, with text, photos, shapes, icons, layers, pages and the common platform sizes. You keep up to 3 designs at a time and get a one-time allowance of AI credits for the Designer, which is enough to see how it writes and lays things out.

Exports on Free are PNG or JPG at 720p with a small watermark, and, as on every plan, the design's Mark must be one you own. That makes Free the natural place to shortlist Marks, test them on your real words and decide before you claim anything. How Gradiently works shows that flow end to end.

What owning a Mark gives you

Claiming is a one-time payment per Mark. It makes you the only owner: your name goes on the Mark's public record, you receive a numbered certificate of authenticity, and only you can export designs made with it. No other brand can claim it while you hold it.

  • The right to export designs made with that Mark, at your plan's quality.
  • A certificate with a number like GRC-7K2M-9QXA-4TPW that anyone can check.
  • The first year of keeping included.
  • The option to pass it on: give it to anyone on Gradiently for free, or list it on the Market at a price you set.

After the first year, keeping a Mark is free with Pro, or a yearly fee per Mark without it. If a year goes unpaid there is a grace period, then the Mark returns to the Market; designs you already exported stay yours. See how to claim a Mark and keeping a Mark.

A few of these are worth a closer look. Copying a design to every size turns one post into a full set for each platform. Bulk create turns a spreadsheet of names, dates or prices into pages. Version history lets you go back to any earlier version, and team workspaces add owner, admin, editor and viewer roles.

A typical Pro month: one Mark, one design, every format it needs to become.

Shortlist on Free, claim once

Use your 3 free designs to test two or three Marks on a post, a story and a wide banner. Claim the one that holds up in all three, then decide whether you need Pro for the work you'll do with it.

AI credits on each plan

The Designer uses AI credits. Free includes a one-time allowance; Pro adds credits every month. If you connect Gradiently to ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant that supports remote MCP servers, the designs your assistant creates there do not spend Gradiently credits. AI credits explained has the detail.

Questions people ask

Is Gradiently free?

Yes, you can design with any unclaimed Mark and keep up to 3 designs for free. Free exports are 720p PNG or JPG with a small watermark, on a Mark you own.

Do I need Pro to own a Mark?

No. Claiming a Mark works on either plan. Pro only changes how you export and whether keeping the Mark costs a yearly fee.

What does Gradiently Pro add over Free?

4K exports without a watermark in every format, unlimited designs, the full template library, resizing to every size, bulk create, video editing, version history, brand kit, team features and monthly AI credits.

Can I export on the free plan without claiming a Mark?

No. On every plan, the design's Mark must be yours to export.

What happens to my Marks if I cancel Pro?

You still own them. Keeping each one becomes a yearly fee per Mark once its included first year is over, and if a year goes unpaid there is a grace period before the Mark returns to the Market.

Keeping a Mark: what happens each year, and with Pro

Claiming a Mark is paid once. Holding on to it is a yearly matter, unless you have Pro. Here is the whole cycle: reminders, renewals, what lapsing means, and what always stays yours.

Find the look that’s only yours.

Every Mark is a living background with one owner. Try an unclaimed Mark, and claim yours when it feels right.
